Screening for Environmental Impact

Environmental and Heritage Impact Assessments are critical facets in the process of project development. It’s essential that any project, whether infrastructure-based or otherwise, is evaluated against the potential impacts it might have on the environment and cultural heritage. Here’s a breakdown of the screenings that Ikhwezi Mageba Consulting undertakes:

Evaluation Against NEMA 1998 Regulations 2010:

We meticulously compare the proposed project activities with those listed in the 2010 regulations of the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) of 1998. This helps determine if a full Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is required.

Activities that could have significant environmental impacts, such as large-scale construction or the establishment of certain types of facilities, typically necessitate a comprehensive EIA.

Waste Management Evaluation:

Our team examines the project against the Waste Listed Activities of 2009 under the National Environmental Management: Waste Management Act of 1998.

This step is essential to recognize if the project activities might generate waste that requires a waste management license. Certain types of waste, especially hazardous waste, have stringent regulations regarding their generation, handling, and disposal.

Water Resources Consideration:

We assess the project’s potential impact on water resources by comparing it against the General Authorization of 1999 under the National Water Act of 1998.

Activities that might affect water quality, alter natural water flow, or involve significant water usage will be identified during this screening. Depending on the outcome, a water use license may be required.
